Wellness Exams and Dog and Cat Vaccinations in Sonora

Pets are like people in a number of ways, including their need for health checkups on a regular basis (at least once a year). These visits allow us to examine pets from nose to tail to ensure they’re healthy or to provide treatment if they aren’t. Live Oak Veterinary Hospital takes a proactive approach to pet wellness care, which is why we recommend annual wellness exams, as well as dog and cat vaccinations and parasite control. Our ultimate goal is to keep all of your four-legged friends healthy so they will be around to chase those Frisbees—or their tails—for as long as possible!

About Your Pet’s Wellness Exam

Each pet wellness care visit consists of a comprehensive, nose-to-tail exam of your pet. Some of the things we look for during these exams include tartar buildup, skin/coat problems, and lumps and bumps. Depending on our findings, we may recommend advanced diagnostic care in the form of X-rays or laboratory work. For young and adult pets, we recommend annual exams. For senior pets, we recommend bi-annual visits to accommodate the changes that come with age. Please feel free to present any questions you have about your pet during these visits.

Dog and Cat Vaccinations

Dog and cat vaccines are an important element of your pet’s preventive care plan because they can help provide immunity to a number of potentially serious illnesses. These include rabies, distemper/parvo, leptospirosis, kennel cough, and canine influenza for your dog, and rabies, distemper, and leukemia for your cat. During your pet’s visits, we can customize a vaccination plan which meets his needs, with consideration to age, breed, and lifestyle. We recommend you keep your pet’s vaccinations updated to provide the highest level of protection.

Parasite Control

Parasites are more than just pesky. Did you know both internal and external parasites are linked to certain diseases? Ticks can transmit Lyme disease; mosquitoes can transmit heartworm, a potentially fatal disease; and fleas can cause allergic dermatitis. At Live Oak Veterinary Hospital, we want your pet to be protected from parasitic diseases, which is why we recommend year-round protection. We can discuss which parasite preventive products would be most effective for your pet during wellness visits.
